5 ✎ karaoke
It's Saturday night at the local pub, and the owner is trying something new: mandatory karaoke night. Good news is, drinks are free. Bad news is, you have to sing a song to get one. Do you dare?
[ Mingle post! Underage folks are welcome in the pub, so don't be shy and please tag around! ]

"It'll be fun! We could do a duet!"
Can you turn down that grin?

"I don't think we know any of the same songs, though - unless you count that one Taylor Swift album you played on repeat for like a month."

So far they'd had all the songs she could think of to sing, and quite a few she'd never heard of. She'd suspect that the karaoke machine was magic, except the idea was so silly.

"I regret that I am unfamiliar with the songs." He motions over at the womenfolk. "Perhaps one of them would make a better partner."

She was mostly watching the singers, more enthusiastic than skilled, and maybe smiling a little in amusement.

"We should do a duet," she suggested, stifling a grin of her own as she pictured Lin up on a stage, singing.
"Except - do you think that means we'll have to share a drink?"

He's not entirely sure she quite fits the scene, sitting in silence. He can't help but come over to break it.

Now baby I'm sure
And I just can't wait 'till the day
When you knock on the door...
Yep, Shirley is singing. A song. Not with incredible amounts of skill, but who's gonna judge? It looked like fun, she's never done karaoke before, and hey you get a free drink! Win-win!
Until someone decides to take blackmail photos, anyway.

Shirley might notice him grooving in his seat.

"I'd like a Shirley Temple, please."
When the bartender explains the price, her eyes go wide with horror. "I have to... sing?! Oh no..."

Hello, my name is Bad At Replying!
Hello bad at replying!
Hi there!
Oh, shoot me.

"There's nothing you'd like to sing?"
Open!
This is probably the first time anyone has heard him sing.
He's good.
Currently he's singing a rather ribald song that involves a tree spirit doing things with its branches that really... wooden.
When he's done, he gives a big and deep bow.

"Sing another one!"

He's not drunk yet. When he's done performing he will be.

"Of course. I wouldn't lie about that! It'd ruin my reputation as a bard."

He's not too eager to sing, either, being both at an age when his self-consciousness is particularly amplified and concerned about how he represents Starfleet. That may not mean much here, but it doesn't change that it means something to him.
But the pub is lively, and it sounds like everyone's having a good time, so you can't really blame the young Ensign for stopping in just to see what's going on, even if he is just quietly hanging out and watching.

"Hi!" she says brightly. "I'm Jane Watson. Are you new?"
no subject
"Relatively, yeah." Truth be told, he's been here longer than he expected to be already. Of course, it's possible time moves differently here... "I'm Wesley Crusher - nice to meet you."
