Alec is sitting outside his shop, in jeans and a tee-shirt despite the cold, with a bowl of chopped up squares of meat. At least he's not barefoot? Circling him is a small brown dragon, about the length of his arm with a snub nose and jeweled eyes. He fishes out a piece of meat from the bowl and then flicks it into the air.
The piece of meat vanishes after leaving his hands and then the little dragon does too. The meat cube reappears somewhere in the square randomly and the dragon snatching it up just seconds behind it.
It then wings its way back to Alec and trills at him, obviously saying 'again'.

"That's quite the creature."
And if she'd been more familiar with ancient Earth lore, she might've recognized it as a some sort of dragon. However, she is not as well versed as her pilot is, and although the shape of the tiny being reminds her of something, perhaps from childhood, she can't quite put her finger on it. Not that it matters, as she's encountered dozens of species that are nothing like the humanoids and bipeds that make up a good portion of the Federation races, nevermind the other sentient beings that inhabit worlds in both the Alpha and Delta Quadrants.

His eyes light up when she approaches, as he does recognize her and he clamps down on any initial responses of "Ohmigawd I absolutely love your work on the Voyager, you're a brilliant Captain and I want you to know that I dealt with a few fan fics involving you being traumatized by Mary Sues and killed them for you" because A. This Janeway's never met him before and B. She would have been flashy thingied to forget his existence anyway.
"Thank you, he thinks so himself," Alec says, instead. Trey circles around once more and then lands on his shoulders to peer at Janeway, his eyes whirling blues and greens in calm curiosity.
apologies. multitasking around work = tagging goofs.
Not that stranger things haven't happened. She's here after all.
"Sentient? How wonderful." She smiles at the creature, holding out a gentle hand. "I won't hurt you."
No worries. That is why there is comment deleting.
"Sentient like a cat or dog. Maybe a bit smarter."
Trey sticks his head out and then moves his head so that she can rub the nubs on top of his skull. He likes that.

Grinning, Janeway does just that, lightly rubbing his tiny skull. "His scales are smoother than I thought they'd be. Does he have a name?"

The fire-lizard hums happily under her hand, his eyes drifting lazily shut.

Looking up and over at Alec, she clarifies, "Captain Kathryn Janeway," because it's okay for a fire-lizard to suddenly gain the ability to speak and call her Kathryn, but not for anyone else here. No, she doesn't allow just anyone to use anything other than her rank - especially when she's already given it out and has made the decision to not fly under the radar and pretend to be anything but Starfleet.

She wanders over to say hello and meet the creature.
"He's so pretty!" she says.

"Thank you," Alec says, sitting up out of his slouch. "This is Trey."
The little dragon circles Watson curiously, his wings flapping lazily. He can't hover after all.
no subject
"Hello, Trey," she says, in that sing-songy tone people reserve for pets and babies.

Meanwhile Alec is just grinning cheerfully, watching this.
no subject
"Maybe Shirley and I should get one of these," she says, grinning back at Alec.
no subject
Well, he is an alien creature so...
"And if a door ever opens up to his world, I'd be happy to try and find you some eggs."

"Is he your pet?" She asks it after a long moment of watching, aware that that's rude, turning her attention more to Alec than the dragon.

Another piece of meat is flicked into the air. This time it doesn't vanish. The dragon still catches it easily enough though.
While the dragon does that, he looks at the other Watson (she will be forever the other Watson because Jane got there first) curiously. "I've not seen you before."
no subject
"Yes, I'm fairly new to - here." Which is about as much of a name as she's willing to give it, still. "I'm Joan Watson. Are you a native, or another person dragged here?"

That great something or another grandfather is a fairy prince. Which explains his ears.
"I'm Alec Troven and that's Trey."

Trey watches her back just as curiously. He doesn't seem to be vicious or anything, merely curious.

For his part, Alec corrects her with, "Fire-Lizard."

"Which is sort of like a dragon in looks, I guess, but they're aliens," Alec continues. He pets Trey's head, soothing the little critter.
no subject
"Aliens?" She sounds skeptical. Kind of. "From space?"
