Alec is sitting outside his shop, in jeans and a tee-shirt despite the cold, with a bowl of chopped up squares of meat. At least he's not barefoot? Circling him is a small brown dragon, about the length of his arm with a snub nose and jeweled eyes. He fishes out a piece of meat from the bowl and then flicks it into the air.

The piece of meat vanishes after leaving his hands and then the little dragon does too. The meat cube reappears somewhere in the square randomly and the dragon snatching it up just seconds behind it.

It then wings its way back to Alec and trills at him, obviously saying 'again'.

The shout startles Trey enough that he vanishes and reappears on Alec's shoulder, his eyes whirling reds. He doesn't hiss at Misery, which is fortunate, he's just startled.

For his part, Alec corrects her with, "Fire-Lizard."

She dials the drama back to--what number is apathetic?--and responds in a flat tone. "Oh. Okay."

Three?

"Which is sort of like a dragon in looks, I guess, but they're aliens," Alec continues. He pets Trey's head, soothing the little critter.

Three sounds good.

"Aliens?" She sounds skeptical. Kind of. "From space?"

[element_wizard]

"A different planet. Which I guess makes it from space. I'm not from Earth either, you know." Or human. But he'll go for not from Earth right now.

"You're a health hazard!" And her mood swings right back to frantic. "Do you know what foreign germs can do to people?"

[element_wizard]

"What does that make you to me then? After all, your germs are foreign to me," Alec says reasonably.

[13pitchblackcats]

"This is my planet. I'm allowed to have my germs."

[element_wizard]

"No. This isn't your planet. We're not on Earth any more. And it's okay for me to have your germs?"

Alec, stop being mean to the girl.

It had not, prior to this moment, occurred to Misery that this is not Earth and that everyone is, essentially, an alien carrying alien viruses and bacteria and who-knows-what.

"THE ALIEN GERMS ARE EVERYWHERE!"

And, without stopping to answer his question, the girl drops her mirror and runs for the mansion. Shrieking. Great job, Alec.

Misery runs straight past Ruby.

"Misery?"

(Maybe Misery notices her, maybe she does not. Either way, Ruby frowns a little.) "I hope everything's okay."


And then she sees Alec and smiles. "Well hello there!"

"Hello! Ruby wasn't it?" Alec says, a wee bit concerned about Misery just running off like that.

"Is she all right?"

[genkigoth]

"Misery? Oh, don't worry. She's never all right." Ruby smiles brightly, as if that isn't a strange and rather depressing thing to say. "I don't think she'd know what to do."

[element_wizard]

It takes Alec a moment to run that sentence over in his head and make it sensible. "So, she's all right then. Good. Apparently my alien germs were too much for her."

[genkigoth]

"She doesn't have very good luck with germs," Ruby says. "Or with anything."

[element_wizard]

"Does she actually get sick from them?"

[genkigoth]

"You know, it's really hard to tell." Ruby taps her chin thoughtfully. "But you're okay, aren't you?"

[element_wizard]

"As far as I know, I'm okay." But then again he's never really encountered this sort of thing before.

[genkigoth]

"That's good! Being sick isn't any fun."

[element_wizard]

"Yeah. I've been lucky and haven't been sick often in my life."
