pocket canon plot: to boldly go where many have gone before

When; January 5 (characters who wander in will come back out the same day, no matter how long they spend in TNG!verse)
Canon Universe; Star Trek: The Next Generation
Participants; Open! You can wander in the same location as Iroh, or find yourself on a different part of the Enterprise entirely

Iroh came perilously close to dropping his third favorite teapot. One moment he had been in his kitchen, preparing to open up the Jasmine Dragon for the morning rush. He stepped through the door to the main dining area, and then suddenly he was somewhere else: a long, metallic white corridor. He looked behind him, but as expected, there was no door back to his shop.

He sighed and looked down at his pot. "I should have brought a teacup."

"At least you're wearing clothes," Shirley said, standing in one of the other doorways in the hallway. She was wearing only a towel, her hair was wet, and she was holding a toothbrush. Apparently she had gotten lost somewhere between the shower and the sink. Or something.

Now Jane had to wonder if she were dreaming instead. None of this was fitting together properly.

(Although usually if she dreamed about Shirley being naked, she wouldn't add a towel.)

"Well, I had to go to work," she answered automatically. Then she frowned.

"This makes even less sense than Burby usually does."

"Now that it looks like you're going to be late anyway, don't you wish you had joined me in the shower?"

"Shirley!" Jane hissed, looking around as if anyone else were going to stop and question them for being out of place. In fact, she was a little surprised that no one had.

"Get your mind out of the gutter," she continued, shrugging out of her coat and offering it to Shirley. Shirley was going to get it all wet and it wouldn't fit her properly, but it was somewhat better than a single towel.

"Thank you." But she grinned as she put on the coat, and her cheeks were maybe a little pink as she took Jane's arm.

"We should find somewhere more out of the way of foot traffic, though."

She hoped that Holmes kept a good grip on her towel. She had to agree though, although her look around them was a bit helpless. The corridors all seemed the same to her, the doors opaque. They could open onto anything. She hoped that the front door was labeled. This was the hugest building she'd ever been in.

"Don't tell me you're just going to start opening doors," Watson said, with a knowing sigh.

"Alright," Holmes replied as she set out to do just that. Not that she got very far, because the doors had no knobs and were responsive neither to her proximity nor to attempts to pry them open, though they did chime every time she stepped close to them.

"Access denied," a disembodied female voice said from somewhere, having apparently tolerated enough of Shirley's failed attempts at opening a door.

Holmes startled and nearly dropped her towel. "What--!?"

"You do not have clearance to access this area," the voice elaborated patiently, apparently oblivious to any nudity she may have almost inadvertently caused.

Watson reached over and hiked up the towel. She had been quite startled at first, but now that she's considered it, that's clearly an automated voice. No point arguing.

"Let's get out of here before they send someone to look," she said. She wasn't sure what any someone would do, finding them here where they clearly aren't supposed to be, but she thought it would be a good idea to lay low at least until they had an idea of what was going on.

"Good call." She took Jane's arm as they collectively scampered out, maybe skipping a little as they did so.

[personal profile] watsonyourmind 2013-01-17 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
The skipping really wasn't necessary, Shirley. Really.

Jane walked along down the corridors. Something was nipping at the edge of her brain, and she finally figured out what it was. "This looks like a bus station," she said to Shirley.
nopolicelikeholmes: (I would like to lodge a complaint)

"A bus station..." Holmes considered that for a moment. Then she turned and gave Watson a squinty face.

"Really, Watson?"

[personal profile] watsonyourmind 2013-01-19 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Jane waved a hand defensively. "Or an airport. You know what I mean? It's all white with ugly carpet and everyone's in a hurry to get somewhere else."
nopolicelikeholmes: (interested)

[personal profile] nopolicelikeholmes 2013-01-19 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I could see an airport," Shirley said thoughtfully. That might be an interesting way to think of this, actually - like an airport. There are some places that are off-limits, maybe because only trained personnel can go there? And everyone has a specific job or duty or destination that they need to hurry off to. It's a good frame of reference from which to look at things, anyway. For the moment.

"We should follow some of these people."

[personal profile] watsonyourmind 2013-01-22 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Jane wasn't normally in favor of surveillance unless it was case-related, but she was really beginning to want somewhere to sit down for a while.

"Pick out someone who looks like he just went off shift," she suggested. "There's got to be someplace to relax off-duty around here somewhere."

"Your leg bothering you?" Shirley asks, side-eyeing Jane a little bit as they find a place to lie low and pick out potential targets.

[personal profile] watsonyourmind 2013-01-22 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
"It's not bad," Jane said, although she always said that. Her limp wasn't all that bad at the moment, though. She'd dealt with worse.

"Was that man wearing a miniskirt?"
nopolicelikeholmes: (interested)

[personal profile] nopolicelikeholmes 2013-01-24 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I think so." Shirley stared after him. Of course, she wasn't one to judge, but it was very telling that none of the ladies she saw were wearing anything like that. A lot of people were wearing that same general sort of uniform, but generally in pants.

"Do you think we might be in the future?" Shirley asked. She liked to imagine that, in the future, all the ladies wore pants and a man could run around in a miniskirt unmolested (as it were). Plus, the black strips on the walls seemed to be LED panels. Which seemed kind of future-y.

"I think we might be in a spaceport or something."

She's not sure what that said about the uniformed people around them. Space-flight attendants? Or maybe actually important people and just in this future everyone wears jumpsuits? She could actually get behind a future like that - as fashionably questionable as it might be, it sounded comfy.

[personal profile] watsonyourmind 2013-01-26 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
"More like a space military base," Jane offered, after further consideration of Shirley's idea. Why else would they all be wearing uniforms?

Who knew, maybe that guy was obeying regs, even.
nopolicelikeholmes: (uncertain)

[personal profile] nopolicelikeholmes 2013-01-29 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Military? You think so?" Jane was the military expert of the two of them, but Shirley gave her a look that indicated that she wasn't buying this. "These uniforms look like leisure suits - since when has the military ever been concerned about comfort?"

[personal profile] watsonyourmind 2013-01-31 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe it's different in space. Maybe they don't always have the gravity turned on," Jane said. "I think that person who just walked by had a gun. It was definitely gun-like." She tried to point surreptitiously. It was in the way the woman was wearing it. It was a gun, or a terrible phone in a holster, or... okay, it also resembled those things you had in grocery stores for setting prices. Jane shrugged. Maybe Shirley was right.

"Leisure suits might be the wave of the future." She shuddered a little. "Hope not."
