[ Ordinary people might at least introduce themselves when making their first public address to whoever's out there on the other end of an unfamiliar network. Not Tony. In lieu of an introduction, or anything approaching a greeting, he says only this: ]

Okay. Seriously. What do you people do for fun around here?

[ The quiet sound of a sigh can be heard, followed by an under the breath mutter. ]

This place is killing me.

Boredom doesn't kill anyone.

You've obviously never sat through a board of directors meeting.

I've been to enough city council meetings to have an idea.

I stand corrected. Government, huh? What'd you do?

Chief of police. I-- resigned recently.

Not to judge, but that sounds like a good move. Working for the government's never really all it's cracked up to be.

It makes it difficult to accomplish what is necessary without a fight beforehand, in my experience.

Your government must operate differently than mine. Everything's a fight. Ordering pens is a fight. The big decisions are even harder to make without everybody getting up in arms about them.

I can't disagree. I know that the council tries to do what's best, but sometimes, they simply react because they are afraid.

And let me guess. When the council's afraid, they start bringing in the kind of incompetent people that only make the situation worse, right?

It's really the same everywhere, isn't it?

I'm not sure if that's more comforting or frustrating.

Let's go with frustrating. It means no one's learned yet. No matter where you are, everybody's just as stupid as the idiots you left behind.

I think that's just the natural state of humanity.

[ He laughs. ]

I think you're right. No, you know what, I know you are.
