Anyone who bothers looking up at the sky today might notice a large black dragon flying overhead. Anyone who doesn't immediately run for cover might notice the fact that said dragon appears to be rather frantic and occasionally yells "Laurence! Laurence, are you here?" in a British accent. If you happen to be standing somewhere next to a large enough spot for him to land in he might attempt to come talk to you.

[ooc: Because descriptions are key with non-human book characters: He is glossy black, with bluish markings on his wingtips, and blue eyes with slitted pupils like a cat's. He has four legs with five talons each and a pair of wings with six spines each. He has a ruff around his face and tendrils that hang from his lower jaw. He is probably around 100ft long, though he is far longer than wide and tends to coil his tail around himself when sitting.]

There is a young lady in the square. It may not have been obvious when she appeared; she's just a normal woman - taller than average - in a brown trenchcoat. But she's there now, looking about her with a sense of curiosity that seems to want to take in everything and store it away forever. She's staring, possibly staring at you and reading you like a book. And apparently you're one of those really good books - the kind with more questions than answers, the kind that keeps you turning the pages long after you should have gone to bed - because her dark eyes glimmer with interest at each new aspect she notices and there's just the hint of a smile on her lips.

"Amazing," she murmurs to no one in particular, "no two of them are alike."

For anyone who hasn't heard, the new forest is quite dangerous. If you cannot defend yourself adequately, please stay away.

However, at this moment, I am looking for volunteers to investigate it. If you are of sound mind and body, and not afraid of possible physical and spiritual danger, I would appreciate your help.

[ For anyone wishing to argue or sign up with Lin in person, you can probably find Lin in any number of places about town. ]

It may have been noticed that very few things - if anything - fazed Alec. He went through the situation with a bright, often manic, smile on his face gleefully poking anything that required to be poked and things that didn't.

Which is why his behavior was remarkably strange when it came to a forest that suddenly showed up overnight. Admittedly it wasn't the nicest looking of forests. It called to mind every nightmarish forest that has existed. The branches were all skeletal and bare and they reached up towards the sky as if clawing for help. Despite the lack of wind they creaked and groaned. Things whispered constantly offering promises of anything, release, power, a merry good time.

Just barely visible through the branches were seven, bleached white skeletons -skeletons that should have long fallen apart- with nooses around their necks and just the shreds of clothing.

As for Alec, he stood near the edges of the woods, just out of the reach of its shadows, looking like he'd just seen the scariest fucking thing in his life and wasn't going to move least it attack him.

((Ooc note: The forest is, in Alec's world, where the seven eldest children of the first fey were murdered for no known reason. Haunted it now seeks more souls to join it in its misery. Going into it is a bad idea.))

[A VOICE. On the forums or whatever it is. A smooth, ridiculously fast Scottish radio voice, because Campbell is doing his radio voice for the occasion.]

This is Campbell Bain, comin' t'ye live fae who knows where? He certainly doesnae but he's broadcasting fae it all the same. It's no as nice as where I came from or where I've been cos it's all wee and cottage-y and probably populated strictly by sweet old ladies. And I'm sorry, but that's no my scene.

This'd be the part usually where I'd do some sorta intro t'the next song, but I've no brought any of my music again. I cannae stand always having t' put together my music library all over again. Is there naebody I can submit a complaint to? Probably one of the wee old ladies who I've gone and offended now. I'm sorry, hen, I didnae mean it, honest! I'll buy you new knitting needles! I'll bring ye as many cups of tea as you want!

[A thoughtful pause.]

D'ye know, I think I'm starting t' become an old hand at this.

[ooc: HE JUST BROADCASTED ALL OF THAT FROM A BENCH IN FRONT OF A SHOP. ACTION ACCEPTABLE.]

[Somewhere in the heart of Burby, the air is thick with magic.

The wind picks up.

Time seems to pause--

--and a man bursts into being, magic sparkling around his thin frame, hair and cloak whipping in the wind. He poses for a moment, the very picture of an ethereal being, inhuman and elegant...]

What?

[The illusion collapses and the air stills, but the man remains. He doesn't look any less otherworldly with his dramatic outfit and odd eyes, but the scowl on his face is anything but magical. "Annoyed" would be an excellent word to apply to his current attitude.]

Who do I get to blame for this inconvenience? Another irritating little girl? [His eyes narrow as he looks around. Understanding dawns.] It's you, isn't it? Faeries--noxious, noisome creatures. I've bested you once; if you insist on a rematch, however...

[A crystal sphere appears in one of his gloved hands and, with a flick of his wrist, it falls to the dirt. Instead of shattering, the crystal transforms into a rather spacious chair. The man drops into it bonelessly and rests his booted feet on one of the chair's arms.]

I'll be waiting.

[ooc: Jareth doesn't do technology, okay. Feel free to encounter him, however! (Oh, and I updated the permissions post; fourthwalling and David Bowie references are a-okay.)]

[ There's no small talk, no greeting. Just a breath on the line, and then a question. ]

I need to know the last time any of you saw Avatar Korra. She is of medium height, with tan skin, brown hair, and blue eyes, and I haven't been able to contact her for over a week.

Good morning. Forgive me for resorting to this medium as a form of communication, but it seemed to me as if it was important to contact a number of this town's inhabitants at once and this seemed like rather the best method.

My name is Alice, and I have been a guest in the town of Burby for ten years, seven months, and 3 weeks exactly.

I'm sure you must have a great deal of questions to this regard, especially since we've received so many newcomers this summer. In that respect, I am offering my knowledge and experience on the subject of our environment, what little help it may be.

So please, don't hesitate to ask me your questions. Or simply stop by The Rabbit Hole Hotel and ask to join me for a spot of tea.

On top of this I have rather exciting news. On Sunday, August the nineteenth, I shall be hosting an end of summer ball at the hotel. It would mean ever so much to me to see everyone there. I do so like to see people enjoying themselves. For if we must be stuck in this place, I believe it is our duty to have a little fun. Formalwear is appreciated.

Goodbye 'til we meet again!

[ooc: Yep, Alice is opening herself to questions! Now is the time for your character to find out more about Burby if they so choose. Video/text/audio or action at The Rabbit Hole Hotel are all fine!]

[ Lin Bei Fong had not chosen her place of residence because of the garden. That would be ridiculous. There were many more important things, such as how defensible it was, and how much it costed per month.

The garden was a nice bonus, and she was out working in it most of the afternoon, enjoying the feel of the sweat on her back (unarmored, for once), and the dirt on her hands. The flowers would probably have grown without her intervention, but where was the fun in that? ]

Oh, thought Luke, upon turning the corner towards David's flame and finding himself in Faery. This is interesting. He hadn't been aware he could do that. He wasn't sure even Wedding knew he could do this, although Wedding had always been one to keep his secrets to himself. He couldn't ask, of course, he knew Wedding would be insufferable about it, even if he'd never been wherever here was himself.

Luke cast about himself to see if he could make an exit of the entrance he'd taken, and after a long, looping walk that took him on a meandering walk alongside a volcano, he found himself back in the town again. Following the strongest flame he could sense clearly wasn't going to work, and David's match had entirely ceased to flicker in his mind. Oh well. He'd be worried if it came down to not getting back ever, but as it was at the moment, he was going to take this as something exciting and new, and possibly exploitable, if Wedding didn't know after all. He couldn't reach David, but maybe he could find his way through here to Helen, Jo or Finn. Weirder things had happened. He was meant to be starting that anyway, really.

First things first. He headed off to poke his head into every single unlocked location he could find.

He'd do the locked ones on the second circuit.
